Insurance News

Kathmandu – Executive Director of the Nepal Insurance Authority, Sushil Dev Subedi, has urged international reinsurance companies to ensure quick and transparent claim settlements in Nepal.

Addressing the InsurInnovators Connect 2025 event held in Singapore, Subedi called on global reinsurers to expedite and maintain transparency in claim payments, particularly in light of recent damages in Nepal.

He emphasized that timely and transparent settlements would help restore public trust and contribute to the sustainable growth of Nepal’s insurance sector. Subedi also highlighted several key issues and opportunities facing the industry — including the challenges small insurers face in implementing risk-based capital frameworks, the need to strengthen cybersecurity and data privacy for digital insurance expansion, and the emerging opportunities and risks of AI-based underwriting and claims processing.

Furthermore, he shared that Nepal, under its “Digital Insurance” initiative, is collaborating with local governments, cooperatives, and digital payment providers to enhance insurance accessibility and efficiency across the country.

Subedi later shared details of his remarks and key discussion points from the event through his social media channels.
