News of Insurance – President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, highlighted the significant role of the insurance sector in Nepal’s economic development. Addressing the 2nd National Insurance Discourse 2025, Dhakal emphasized the timeliness and relevance of the event in the current economic context.
He underscored the importance of the insurance sector in capital formation, stating, “From the private sector’s perspective, there are concerns about high insurance premiums, while policyholders often complain about delays in claim settlements. I urge all stakeholders to address these issues diligently.”
Dhakal also pointed out that a significant portion (around 3-4%) of the collected insurance premiums is deposited in banks and financial institutions. He stressed that insurance premiums should not be limited to fixed deposits in banks but should instead be strategically invested in infrastructure projects. He further urged authorities to issue a policy directive ensuring a specific percentage of insurance funds is allocated to infrastructure investments.
